The Andes Mountain Chain crosses the country from north to south. The Highlands Region, commonly referred to as "La Sierra", is divided into 10 provinces, each of which have important peaks such as Chimborazo (6,310 m), Cotopaxi (5,897 m, the world's biggest active volcano) , Cayambe (5,790 m), among others. Quito, the capital of Ecuador, is located in this region at 2,850 m above sea level.

This region is divided into 5 provinces which encompass 640 kilometers of coastline,. All of the provinces have beautiful beaches and plenty of hotels and resorts for tourists.

The Amazon Region is divided into 6 provinces. This area is home to some of the nation's most beautiful and important rivers: the Napo (Amazon River tributary), the Putumayo, the Misahualli and the Pastaza. Its amazing landscapes, giant trees, medical plants and variety of birds and mammals offers you an unforgettable experience.

The Galapagos Islands are Ecuador's 22nd province. This Archipelago is made up of 13 main islands, 17 islets, and dozens of ancient rock formations. They are located 970 kilometers west off the coast of the Ecuadorian mainland.The total land area is 7,882 square kilometers with a marine reserve of 45,000 square kilometers.
